Two Weeks and Counting!!
With course preparations drawing to their inevitable conclusion, heartbeats are increasing and the anticipation around the site at Osberton is almost at fiver pitch….
Just two weeks to go before the beautiful parkland of the Osberton estate is transformed in to a thriving, bustling village of focused competitors, eager owners and an eclectic whirlwind of officials and support staff.
The Official site visit by the FEI TD Gillian Kyle all went to plan this week with a few tweaks’ here and there, however, all is in line to provide great educational courses at both levels. With the introduction of a newly designed water complex and the redevelopment of the bank this will prove both challenging and exciting at all the right levels. Stuart Buntine (course designer) has worked hard with this historic site, to offer two, truly innovative, adrenaline pumping and cranial testing courses that will delight all. (It is hoped!!)
Audi Lincoln are supporting Osberton this year as our motor sponsor and will be providing all the support vehicles for the site along with an impressive trade stand for all to peruse at their leisure. Their site staff will be only too happy to offer a test drive of their new Q5 sporty off-roader or their tried and tested Q7 4x4 and with the new registrations coming out in September, now is the perfect time to consider any of the A3,4,5,6,8,tt,Q ranges.
Watch out for Rider Packs that will shortly be coming out in the post. Along with all the need to knows and usual housekeeping rules, there are a few extras to be aware of. Event managers BEDE Ltd are offering all riders a 20% discount on all their meals at the Castle Rock Tavern (situated on the main arena) and for the other very important part of the team BEDE are supplying a free bale of BEDMAX shavings for each stable. With BEDMAX’s support all bedding can be purchased from the stable managers office on site at a specially reduced event price. The champagne cocktail party plans are all in place for Thursday evening, where our obliging host Mr Michael Foljambe is looking forward to the company of all Owners and Riders at the Old Mill on the estate. Again all details are in the riders pack.

Osberton moves up a gear!
With ground works well on the way to completion for both courses; the construction team have performed miracles over the last few weeks and things are really taking shape, the focus now looks towards final preparations for the competitors and visitors to this re-launch event. Back in its day Osberton was a leading light in the Eventing calendar, with 3 day trials an annual occurrence and hosting Olympic final trials in 1976 . Wanting to make sure that this former glory is returned to this historic site it has been decided that one of the best ways to start, was to create a party festival feel, finishing the summer off with some great competition, and just if not more importantly some great craic!!
Along with the traditional cocktail party for Owners and Riders on the Thursday we will be having a Welcome Party on the Wednesday evening complimented with a superb succulent BBQ. Friday evening will be provisionally bobbing the night away with great live music and the Saturday Evening blowout will be a disco and plenty of ale….
We can announce that we have joined forces with Castle Rock Brewery to create the “Castle Rock Tavern”. This will be the main hospitality venue, serving fantastic food and refreshments throughout the day and provide a mixture of entertainment and themed elements for all the evenings all across the full spread of the four days, including music, great food and most importantly masses of fun.
Castle Rock is a pub and brewing group based in the East Midlands and Yorkshire. Named "Pub Group of the Year" in 2002, 2006 and 2008, Castle Rock currently operates 20 pubs or cafe bar style establishments. As Nottingham’s last bastian of brewing Castle Rock are committed to ensuring this time honoured tradition keeps a footing firmly in Nottinghamshire with their offering of 6 awarding winning ales has certainly stamped its mark on the UK Real Ale fraternity.
Entries are flying in and the whole team at BEDE are terribly excited as we hope you all are. The clock is ticking and further updates to follow.

Get Your Hotel Bookings in early:
Not only will North Nottinghamshire be rocking due to the influx of competitors and owners for the Three Day event, it is also the St Leger Weekend at Doncaster! Traditionally one of the last major flat racing fixtures in the country this will significantly increase the demand on accommodation.
Osberton can cater for any one wishing to bring a caravan and powered sites are available to those requiring them. Please contact the office (01949 829061) for more information.
We have included a list of local accommodation for those requiring it, please mention the horse trials when you call so that the locals understand that the event is aiding their trade. We would appreciate your support as it will enable us to increase the local support and investment in future years. A bit of oil on the cogs is really useful!!
This year Ye Olde Bell at Barnby Moor is our preferred accommodation partner. This is a great hotel only minutes drive from Osberton event site and they are offering some great weekend deals for those wishing to have a really enjoyable weekend away. Please do ring to check their availability as I can vouch for your stay, it will be really pleasant. Their web site is www.yeoldebell-hotel.co.uk . They have some special Osberton Horse trial discounts available.
The St Leger, the oldest of the classics, is run on Sunday 12th September so you may wish to include this in your trip to Osberton? Please check out their site www.doncaster-racecourse.co.uk . Doncaster is, coincidentally, owned by Arena Leisure who also own and hosted both Wolverhampton and Southwell horse trials this year. They are very committed to the sport so it is great that once again we can work together to give equestrian enthusiasts are real ‘double-header’ weekend treat.

Work in progress
Work is well under way with the changes to the cross Country Course. Major changes to the whole event lay out have taken place since the last event.
This year the hub of the event will house all the stables, box parking and catering facilities. With stables and box park immediately adjacent to the Main arena everything will be close at hand. Catering facilities, bar and entertainment will be only a stones throw from your lorries…so no struggling back late at night!
The course will this year incorporate much of the parkland that has provided so much good cross country over the years. Freed from the restrictions of the woods, this will ensure a free galloping course. Many changes are under way, the water jump has been greatly enlarged and alterations made to the bank complex.

The course building team have been working hard to finish alterations.
Both courses this year will be great introductions to this level of competition.
